Pilates
What is it? It’s everywhere - and sometimes not quite presented properly. Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates, is a sophisticated method of movement that involves and benefits both the mental and physical being. Often misinterpreted in the fitness industry, it goes beyond just the concept of “core” and borders more on therapy.
We’re going way beyond a six-pack.
Pilates strengthens and stretches as well as shines light on your postural habits, therefore creating new movement patterns in every day life. The exercises have been proven for both injury prevention and recovery, or really any condition the body is experiencing. Chronic back pain, scoliosis, pregnancy, sciatica, brain issues, knee/foot pain - all can benefit from Pilates. Joseph Pilates originally dubbed the method ‘Contrology’ to which he said “you first purposefully acquire complete control of your own body and through proper reps of the exercises you gradually acquire that natural rhythm and coordination associated with all of your subconscious activities.” Which is just another fancy dancy way to say “Pilates is good for all areas of your life, physically and mentally.”
In other words - just do it.
“Megan Gelabert-McGee provides a profound Pilates experience that has surpassed every expectation I could have dreamed of. She is a master of Pilates with a deep knowledge of movement thru the human body. After a dramatic and prolonged illness, I struggled with physical and neurological issues, manifesting in an inability to consciously move or lift some of my limbs on command and if I did so, use the wrong muscle groups to do so.
Megan has helped me regain functional mobility in my lower extremities and build core strength surpassing any level of whole body strength I have had in the past. Thru Megan’s guidance and methodical planning, she has drastically improved my day-to-day quality of life.
I am eternally grateful and highly recommend Megan and Harmony Private Pilates Studio.”
